PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Learn the skills to start your own business or lead an organizing effort around your cause! Visit innovative local non-profits, start-ups, businesses and governmental entities and engage with local and national leaders across diverse fields. Hear business start up stories, how people overcome fear and failure and grow to thrive in challenging conditions and ultimately make positive change in the world. Learn the art of communicating your message, fundraising and building a business or project around something you’re passionate about!

ACTIVISM & ENTRERENEURSHIP TEEN CAMP:  Check back for 2019 dates!

AGES: Young Adults 14-17

COST: $595 Public, $495 Impact Hub member’s teenager
LOCATION: Impact Hub Santa Barbara, 1117 State Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93101

 

CAMP SCHEDULE:

  • Monday – Friday, July 24-28, 9 AM – 3 PM
    (Drop students off and pick up at Impact Hub 1117 State Street)
  • Final Presentation Friday, July 28, 4 – 5:30 PM (Families and guests invited)
    Reception & Dinner to follow 5:30 – 7:30 PM (Families and guests invited, RSVP required)

NOTES: Students should bring money for lunch. We will be eating at area restaurants near by.

All locations visited are with in walking distance from Impact Hub Santa Barbara ( ~ 1 Mile).  Students will use smart phones for making videos, though they can share with others if they don’t have them. On designated days students should bring lap tops if they have them, though they are not required.

 

AREA BUSINESS VISITS & TAKE AWAYS:

We will visit a number of local businesses that include for profit, non-profit, foundations, and governmental organizations across diverse fields.A sampling includes:

Fund for Santa Barbara – Meet with Executive Director Marcos Vargas and learn about this progressive change making organization! 

Community Environmental Council – Meet with Earth Day Director Kathi King and learn about all things the the CEC is working on 

City Hall – Meet with Mayor Helene Schneider, learn how she overcomes obstacles and fears and practice your public speaking in the Council Chambers

Explore the business of yoga at Core Power Yoga with owners Cara and Brandon!  Learn the art of opening a restaurant business at Renaud’s Bakery

Learn start up stories of many Impact Hub businesses and how you too can rock what your passionate about!

Learn how to create a website, videos and create an e-newsletters for activism on the move.

ABOUT THE CAMP STAFF 
Robin Elander is the founder of Global Good Impact, a coaching and project consulting company located in Santa Barbara. Robin has facilitated teen leadership camps, events and programs around the world that focus on community engagement, leadership, business and environmental stewardship. Robin is also the project manager for many community building projects locally including Summer Solstice Celebration, Open Streets Santa Barbara and Carpinteria. She also facilitated the first year of programs and events at Impact Hub Santa Barbara.
Whitney Webb is the founder of Inherit Education which focuses on financial and philanthropic education for families through customized programs, project-based learning, and mentoring for the next generation.
Whitney has created and ran educational programing through out the US, and abroad with a focus on global awareness, international economics, socially responsible investing, and due diligence on non profits
ABOUT IMPACT HUB:

Impact Hub is a collaborative work and event space with a network of over 80 hubs around the world designed to help individuals and businesses grow and thrive. There are two Impact Hub locations in Santa Barbara, 1117 State Street and 10 E. Yanonali St.

IMPACT HUB MENTORS AND GUEST SPEAKERS:

A number of Impact Hub staff, members and community members will be serving as mentors and guest speakers throughout the week of camp. These will include specialists on website design, videography, business plan development, public speaking, global perspectives as well as their start up stories.
